Best Estates for First-Time Visitors
Waterford, Lanzerac, Delaire Graff, Spier, Tokara and Jordan are useful starting points because each provides a distinct visitor experience.

Best for Wine & Chocolate
Waterford and Lanzerac are strong dedicated pairing options. Choose one special pairing rather than repeating novelty formats throughout the day. The Cape Town chocolate-and-cupcake pairing tour explicitly lists Lanzerac’s wine-and-chocolate pairing. It is a new activity without an established review record; confirm the pairing and pickup address. Lunch is a separate expense.
Best for Views
Delaire Graff and Tokara are among the easiest scenic recommendations, particularly around Helshoogte Pass. The Winelands tour listing Delaire Graff and Tokara also travels beyond Stellenbosch. Its transport, tasting and lunch packages differ, so compare the option inclusions.
Best for Families
Spier is one of the easiest estates for families because wine is only one part of the farm experience. Warwick also works well when outdoor and seasonal activities are available. Spier’s family programme includes play and picnic options. The Northern Vine Hopper route from Stellenbosch lists Warwick, but a hop-on ticket does not include its vineyard safari. How Many Wineries?
Three is ideal. Four can work with short tastings. If you book a long lunch or two-hour tour, reduce the number.
Transport
Stellenbosch wineries are too spread out to walk between. Use a designated driver, guided tour, private driver or a local hop-on service such as the Wine Tractor/Vine Hopper where suitable.
The Stellenbosch Wine Tractor meets at Eikendal on the R44; a Cape Town shuttle needs separate advance arrangements. Tastings and meals cost extra. The Eastern Vine Hopper route departs from Stellenbosch and lists Lanzerac and Boschendal. Check the timetable, pickup coverage and tasting fees before choosing it. A private driver is useful if your must-visit estates span different routes.
Wine Tram?
